Warply, the leading Greek company in Mobile Marketing and CRM, organized successfully the conference entitled Mobile payments” which was held on Thursday, November 13, at the premises of INNOVATHENS, Node Innovation and Entrepreneurship of Technopolis City of Athens. The event was moderated by the journalist of the newspaper “Proto Thema”, Panagiotis Markidis and had as its central theme the innovative payment services and purchases from mobile phones.
Core of the debate between the key “players” in the market were the market trends in electronic payments through mobile. The speakers, Vassilis Koutsoubas from First Data, Gerasimos Livieratos from i-Square, Philip Thomas from Vodafone, Constantine Frydakis from Piraeus Bank, Antigonos Papadopoulos from Eurobank and John Doxaras from Warply, presented and commented on new technological platforms and the challenges posed by mobile payments, as well as on the actions and attitude of big companies towards this upcoming reality.
From the evidence presented at the event, the total number of debit cards in the world is approximately 10 million, almost as the one of mobile subscriptions, and contactless transactions seem to be the next years’ big challenge, for both global market and especially Greece, mainly due to two fundamental pillars: transparency and access to consumers’ behaviors data.
Highly interesting is the fact that holders of smartphones that download and use mobile apps, it appears to have four (4) times higher disposable income to spend, while very important for the increase of the use of cards and mobile app for payments / purchases is to provide incentives through offers, coupons, bonus points, and many more that will connect the consumer with the offline point of sale.
It is characteristic that while in 2013 worldwide payments via mobile phone amounted to $ 235 billion, in 2017 it is estimated to reach $ 721 billion. As stated by CEO and Founder of Warply, John Doxaras: “all insights and surveys show that mobile will very soon dominate to payment services in Greek market as well and therefore to the so called path to purchase – mainly because of the friendly processes to the user. For this reason Warply will continue investing in new innovative services on mobile payments, purchases, discount coupons and consumer research.
